About: Gracie’s Wine Room

South Yarra’s newest wine bar in an Edwardian building on Toorak Road, complete with indoor dining, booths, a nice big bar and a leafy courtyard perfect for al fresco sipping.

Stop by for limoncello spritz, buttery lobster rolls and DJ sets and lighting that transitions the mood from day to night.

The Brief: Founder Kelsie Gaffey had a clear vision for Gracie’s and wanted to ensure the lighting enhanced the atmosphere and overall customer experience. Working with the Edwardian frontage, she had her heart set on feature pendants throughout the front bar that both paid homage to this classic style but with a contemporary flair. The transition from the front bar to what Kelsie likes to call, ‘The Music Room” was an important element of the design that relied on lighting to set the change of mood.

The Approach: Commercial Lighting Consultant, Shayla instantly acknowledged the large amount of natural light in both zones and with that, the importance of ensuring adequate lighting at night.

Toledo Pendants were the winner for the front seating areas and as a functional feature across the stunning timber bar. For additional task and feature lighting, track was utilised across the longer dining table and to highlight the unique take home offerings available.

As you move through the space and transition into the Music Room, LED Strip highlights the DJ Booth and record display, while Fade Wall Lights create ambience and showcase the textured cork walls. In addition to the wall washers, Tryl Pendants are placed over the core seating area to allow enough light for those late nights.

In the lush courtyard, Festoons were an easy choice to create functional light and bring all the vibes. Shayla also opted for garden Spikes throughout for additional light at night.
